When it comes to requirements for products’ geometric deviations, extensive international work is underway under the collective name Geometric Product Specifications (GPS). The purpose of GPS is to be able to describe requirements for a product’s geometry in an unambiguous way through an elaborate symbolic language, but also that related areas, such as methods for measurement and verification, uncertainties in verification of requirements and requirements for measuring equipment, should be as far as possible standardized. Through the GPS system, a toolbox is obtained for setting requirements, manufacturing and verifying the geometric properties of products where requirements can be specified and perceived in an unambiguous way for all parties.
